Oh, and I’ll be heading out of town tomorrow afternoon for the Memorial Weekend,
    but rest assured,
I’ll have updates when I return.
And I will TRY with all my might to restrain my pictorial impulses this trip…
    but no guarantees!

    Luvs,
    ~Nettie~
  • Huzzah!

    The Window is Fixed!

    Better than new.

    And in completely unrelated news,
a sock war broke out in the
    Heidmann Living Room
    earlier today.

    There were no reported casualties.

  • Broke

4:00 pm is when the rubber meets the road around here.
    In particular,
when The Boy and I sashay on out to the van
    (well, I sashay, he meanders…),
peel out of the driveway and make for the dojo.
    At 4:01 today,
    I locked the gate,
    smooched my math-teaching sweetie,
    hopped in,
    unlocked the door for Jake,
reached for my door and slammed it shut.
Immediately there was a loud clanking sound from behind me,
like the sound of a large heavy tow chain falling to the floor in the back of the van.
    I turned around to look,
wondering why I should be hearing that sound,
dimly remembering that the tow chain is usually stored in the back of the suburban…
    and discovered this:

It would appear this was done with a BB-gun.

    Stinkin’ vandals.

The window repair guy will be here between 7:30 am and noon tomorrow.
    And it will cost $375.
    Lovely.

    ~*~*~*~*~

And then I had a quiet and leisurely sit in the shade, windows down, breeze ruffling my hair,
crocheting and listening to the radio during karate.

Arrived home, and discovered that this morning,

I had forgotten about my quart jar of tea in the freezer.

    Oops.

    ~*~*~*~*~

I’d like to think that is all I will find broken today.

  • For Meg

Whilst I am about the business of
    schoolin’ the young’uns,
    I busy my hands
    thusly:

I am making this one for Megan as her
    graduating-into-high-school
    present.
More colors are on the way!

  • Playin’ around…

Sunday afternoon, and Nettie places a
    temporary moratorium on
    DVDs!!

    HOW will we SURVIVE??!!

Watch and be amazed, my friends…

These two hole up in the living room
    to play some
    SORRY…

Then, after a GREAT deal of preparation, study, and set-up,
all of which was done by Laurent,
we all gathered round the table
    so she could explain
    the
    Battlestar Galactica
    game.
Pay close attention to the faces below:

    Uh…. yeah.
We are just too dumb for that game.

    Moving right along,
the kids decided to play dress up in Dad’s
    graduate school getup.
(I subsequently played around with the pix because…
    well….
    that is what I do…)

After that, I went to play another round of SORRY with The Boy
    (who beat me soundly)…
Then I drowned my sorrows in yarn for a while,
handing the camera off to him.
(Dangerous, I know, but he has done enough stop-action films with his legos that
I figured he’d treat it right.
    And he did.)

Paul and the girls began a game of team Canasta.
I think they got into the 3,000s before they took a break.

And, apparently, they all needed to make faces into the camera.

And that is what we have been doing today.

  • Yard Day

If my husband had a blog,
he would be blogging about all the unfortunate car work he has had dropped in his lap in the last week,
something major with every single vehicle we own.
And every single job is giving him fits.
He would have a lot to blog about.
But, unlike his wife, blogging is not his way of de-stressing!
He finished his latest job a while ago,
and immediately grabbed his mp3 and headphones and headed out for a brisk walk.

    Today,
after the girls went with their dad to shooting practice,
they came home and spent about 2 hours cleaning their room and bathroom.
    It SHOWED!
I was impressed when I got home from karate with The Boy.

I warmed up some leftover turkey
(we still had a gallon size freezer bag of turkey and juice from Thanksgiving!)
and we had hot turkey sandwiches for lunch.

Then there was some main area cleaning and tidying and vacuuming and kitchen cleaning.

Then all the kids went outside to hit the yard.
With the great blessing of owning the shadiest yard in at least a square mile,
comes the responsibility of occasionally cleaning up the leaves and pine needles that drop from our trees.
    This,
    their father and I feel,
is a great opportunity for the children to muscle up and get some callouses.

Here is Paul, having finished his attempt to replace the main seal on CEL,
switching vehicles so he can replace the
    radiator on the mini-van.

    Here it is,

    the new radiator.
    Happy Happy Joy Joy!

The debris will sit in the trailer until next Saturday when Paul can take it to the dump.

    Interesting…

I love this magnetic bolt holder.

    Cleaning out under the trampoline.

    So much JUNK!

    Oooo! Green!

This grapefruit is about 1″ in diameter.

Ugh…. all these books sitting in the open, in the shed with the broken out wall…
    Grrrrr!
Another day I will tackle clearing the spiders out of that shed and deciding if any of those books are worth keeping.

But now, the work is done,
    and we are off to
    Hobby Lobby.

    I love Saturdays.

    The End.

  • P.O.D.

    My house.
    The morning after
    a
    trip to the library:

    Wait….
ok, the funny papers were sent to Jacob yesterday by Grandpa.
But everybody else is reading library books.

  • Library finds…

Our monthly trip to the orthodontist with homeward bound detour through the public library this morning was profitable indeed.  Although I did not find a single volume on still life painting, which was my primary objective, I did find three other works that should prove interesting:

  • A Day of Congratulations!

Yesterday we had a super time with Lisa and Layla.
Brought them to church with us at Ss. Simon and Jude Cathedral,
    which they enjoyed immensely -
except for the part where Lisa took Layla out to the little ladies room,
and when they came back, a latecomer had taken their seat at the end of our row.
Layla said, “I’m gonna go pull that boy’s hair!”
    Lol!
    Lisa discouraged that response,
and eventually they were able to get back into the their seats without resorting to fisticuffs.

After church I drove home (we had taken the suburban, since the minivan is out of commission)
and then at home, Paul got CEL and I followed him to the Goodyear store.
He had to cut his weekend at the ranch short when he picked up a piece of wood in the sidewall of a back tire.  He had tried to fix it in St. Johns on Saturday,
    but nobody was open;
so then he drove to Show Low,
where one store was closed and the other did not have the size tire he needed in stock —
so he just ended up coming home,
arriving around supper time on Saturday evening.
    Needless to say,
he really needs to go to the ranch now!

Anyway… Goodyear for some reason told him to come back Monday.
    Ok… ?
Don’t know why he couldn’t leave it with them while he was there, but whatevs.
From there, we went to Jack in the Box for a quick little lunch.
THEN, Paul took the four youngest home with him in CEL,
while Laurent and Lisa accompanied me across the parking lot to Safeway.
There we picked up the fixin’s for a celebratory supper.

Back at home, the kids perched themselves in the living room to watch Lisa’s favorite series of the many we have acquired on DVD,
    http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/1585/monkseason2wv4.jpg
     Monk.

While they were hooting and giggling in there,
Layla and Geneva were having a high old time jumping on the trampolines
(the big one outside, AND the rebounder inside)
    and playing with jewelry!

    Paul gave Lisa her
    Graduation Pickles…

    Girl LOVES Grandma Heidmann’s pickles!!

And while they were all doing THAT,
I whipped up a wacky cake.

Here is the first layer of the cake, with butter-cream frosting and maraschino cherries.

After THAT, I prepped the supper fixin’s –
    a taco salad buffet.

And before it was all finished, there was the inevitable toasting of the graduate:

(Layla reeeeeeally likes the sparkling grape juice!)

Words cannot express how proud we are of our god-daughter.
    This is an amazing accomplishment,
and we thank God for his grace in helping Lisa persevere
    despite the drama
    and many and varied obstacles.
    God is Good!
    CONGRATULATIONS, LISA!!!

(Lisa will, in a few weeks (late, because I am always a little tardy), be receiving her graduation afghan — she requested a Rainbow!)

  • The 12th of Geneva

Ahhh, another milestone for another daughter!

    Yesterday was
    Geneva Melody’s 12th Birthday.

    We do love 12ths!
We have a special tradition for 12th birthdays.
Daughters get to go on a formal date
    with Dad
    to a
    fancy restaurant!

Here is the lovely and gracious Geneva with her father, before they departed for their date.

    While they were gone,
the remaining kids helped me tidy up and prepare the table for the party!

This magnificent goblet was Laurent’s idea… she saw it while we were gathering supplies at Wal-mart during the afternoon shopping excursion earlier in the day, and with one look,
    I knew yet another
    Birthday Tradition
    had been born.

    The Snickers Cheesecake
    chosen by the birthday girl.
    Mmmmm.

    Pretty table decor…

One of the plastic goblets we obtained
    for the drinking of
    “kid-wine”
    (sparkling grape juice)
    with the dessert!

    After dinner, Geneva came home,
and was NOT wearing her gift from her dad and me.
I asked why she hadn’t wanted to wear it, and she said,
“I just wanted to keep looking at it!”

Fair enough, but I wanted to see it ON her!!

    A precious reminder to her
    of how precious she is,
    to us.

    Let’s get this party started!

No party is complete without canine participation.

    Awwwww…
I don’t let her do that to me.
That’s why Paul is her favorite.

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY
    GENEVA
    MELODY
    EVELYN
    RUTH
    HEIDMANN!!!!
